Cretaceous period


The Cretaceous is geologic period and system that spans 79 million years from the end of the Jurassic period 145 million years ago to the beginning of the Paleogene Period 66 mys. It is the last period of the Mesozoic Era and the longest period of the Phanerozoic Eon. The Cretaceous Period is usually abbreviated K, for its German translation Kreide (chalk, creta in Latin) .

The Cretaceous was a period with a relatively warm climate, resulting in high eustatic sea levels that created numerous shallow inland seas. These oceans and seas were populated with now-extinct marine reptiles, ammonites and rudists, while dinosaurs continued to dominate on land. During this time, new groups of mammals and birds, as well as flowering plants, appeared .

Research History :-

The Cretaceous as a separate period was first defined by Belgian geologist Jean d'Omalius d'Halloy in 1822, using strata in the Paris Basin and named for the extensive beds of chalk (calcium carbonate deposited by the shells of marine invertebrates, principally coccoliths), found in the upper Cretaceous of Western Europe . The name Cretaceous was derived from Latin creta, meaning chalk .

Dark matter

Dark matter  is an unidentified type of matter  distinct from dark energy ,  baryonic matter  (ordinary matter),  and neutrinos . It comprises approximately 27% of the  mass and energy  in the   observable universe .  The name refers to the fact that it does not emit or interact with electromagnetic radiation , such as light, and is thus invisible to the entire electromagnetic spectrum .  Although dark matter has not been directly observed, its existence and properties are inferred from its gravitational effects such as the motions of visible matter, gravitational lensing , its influence on the universe's large-scale structure , and its effects in the cosmic microwave background . The concept of supercontinent was first proposed by the Alfred Wegener (His full name is Alfred-Lothar-Wegener) in the year of 1912. He was born on 1 November 1880. He is a German polar researcher, Geophysicist, and Meteorologist. The reason behind he proposed this concept is he found some fossil's which lived on the earth.
